Arthur Zwane’s verdict on Austin Dube’s return
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has given his verdict on the return of defender Austin Dube.
Dube made a shocking return to the Glamour Boys’ starting line-up for the first time this season when the side went head-to-head with Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, 18 February 2023.
And Zwane was impressed by the performance of the 30-year-old defender, who featured in the absence of Reeve Frosler, Eric Mathoho, Dillan Solomons and Edmilson Dove.
The centre-back went on to play the whole 90 minutes against Abafana Bes’thende.
However, Chiefs lost the match 3-2, with a disappointing display that caused coach Zwane nightmares, which led to the ‘boo boys’ chanting “, Zwane must go”.
As a result, he had to be escorted by the police and security personnel to the tunnel for his safety.
ARTHUR ZWANE IMPRESSED WITH AUSTIN DUBE PERFORMANCE
“I think he did well, to be quite honest, since he hasn’t been playing for a long time,” Zwane told the media.
“When we gave him the opportunity today, he did well, especially for a player that has been on the sidelines.
“We did not expect much from him, but he did a good job, and I’m very proud of him.”
Last season, Dube managed to play 16 games across all competitions, having joined them from Richards Bay.
At some point, he was seen as the replacement for Daniel Cardoso, now at Sekhukhune United.
Now, Zwane’s charges will shift their focus to the Soweto Derby on Saturday, 25 February.
Chiefs will lock horns with Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium, with kick-off set for 15:30.
