Magesi FC coach Clinton Larsen has been impressed with the impact made by experienced midfielder Manuel Kambala and other new signings.
Magesi beefed up their squad with players such as Motsie Matima, Mthokozisi Msomi and Kambala.
The Mozambique international has featured in both Motsepe Foundation Championship and Nedbank Cup matches for the club this season.
Magesi were beaten 1-0 by JDR Stars in a league encounter at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium this past weekend. Larsen says the reason the hard-marking player and others were brought in was to guide younger players.
WHAT MANUEL KAMBALA BRINGS TO MAGESI
“He has brought in experience, like I keep saying,” Larsen told FARPost.
“We went to Cape Town recently, and half of the team, it was the first time flying to Cape Town. First time playing at Athlone Stadium.
“But that alone tells you how inexperienced the group is. Kambala, Matima, Msomi, these guys bring that experience. They have been around, they know what it takes to be competitive, and their guidance to the young players is invaluable,” he added.
“They are good examples and professionals to these young boys, and we are very selective in the types of senior players we bring to the club.
“I always try to bring players that would be role models and give good advice to the young players. We have so many talented young players here, and we need them to listen to the right people, the right players and grow as footballers.”
TOUGH BATTLE TO RETAIN STATUS AHEAD
Magesi are not yet safe from relegation with 12 matches remaining. They are just nine points above bottom-placed Black Leopards, who also lost 2-0 to Polokwane City leaders on Sunday.
Their next match will be away at University of Pretoria on Wednesday, 22 March.
