Augustine Mulenga extends Napsa Stars stay

Ex-Amazulu and Orlando Pirates midfielder Augustine Mulenga has extended his short-term stay at Zambian Super League club Napsa Stars.

The Chipolopolo Zambia midfielder joined the Lusaka-based club on a free transfer in October on a four-month deal.

Mulenga moved back home to Zambia at the end of his contract with AmaZulu, whom he left at the close of the 2021/2022 season.

AUGUSTINE MULENGA’S SERVICES RETAINED

Napsa Stars Chief Executive Officer Ponga Liwewe told FarPost that Mulenga’s contract was renewed in January and that the club is delighted to have retained his services.

“We have extended his contract until the end of this season, and then we will see what happens after that,” Liwewe said.

Mulenga has so far featured in 17 games since making his Napsa debut on October 15 in a scoreless away draw against Lumwana Radiants. He has been in the starting XI since November.

The 33-year-old midfielder scored three goals for mid-table Napsa, with his last coming seven games ago on January 8 in a 3-1 Lusaka derby home win over defending Zambian champions Red Arrows.

Mulenga is also one of three notable former South Africa PSL players who returned home to Zambia this season.

Ex-Pirates striker Justin Shonga rejoined his old club Nkwazi in September on a permanent move, where he has scored five goals.

KAMBOLE COULD ECLIPSE MULENGA, SHONGA

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarus Kambole joined his former club Zesco in January on a six-month loan from Tanzanian club Young Africans.

But Kambole is threatening to eclipse Mulenga and Shonga after scoring four goals in his first three games at Zesco.

Kambole has now played five games for the 6th placed nine-time Zambian champions, who are crawling themselves back to familiar territory in the top four after spending the first half of the season outside the top ten.
