Gavin Hunt hints at Njabulo Blom’s new role ahead of MLS start

Gavin Hunt has hinted where he thinks Njabulo Blom’s new side, St Louis City will play him ahead of a new MLS season this weekend.

The 23-year-old signed for MLS side St Louis City in December after spending eight-plus years with Kaizer Chiefs.

During his time at Chiefs as a first-team player, the Amakhosi academy graduate was one of the stand-out players.

After spending almost three seasons in the PSL, the Soweto-born baller starts life in the MLS this weekend.

The MLS new season is set to commence this weekend, on Friday, 25 February. Blom’s former mentor at Chiefs, Hunt, has called for patience from St Louis City supporters as the new season begins.

Hunt revealed that it might take time for the former Chiefs player to settle into a new team and league.

However, Hunt tips the Bafana Bafana star to do well with City as soon as he adapts to the environment.

WHY HUNT BELIEVES BLOM NEEDS PATIENCE IN NEW LEAGUE

“Obviously, it is going to be a step up in the level. He is obviously gonna have to find his feet,” Hunt told FARPost.

“I mean, it is a big cultural change for him, so obviously, the football will be played with a bit more precision there, which is a good strength.”

“So yeah, I think he has gone in there as a sort of a midfield player, but it looks like he is going to be more of a defensive central midfield player, or whatever you want to call it, a sitting player.”

“So yeah, it is going to be a culture shock for him, as I said, because he is used to a certain way of playing, a different style, I’m sure. But he will do well there.”

Blom’s new side, City, will play their first game of the 2023 season on Sunday, 26 February, at 03:30 am, South African time.
