AmaZulu FC have confirmed the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns youth product as they continue to bolster their squad.

Earlier this week, FARPost reported that the signing of the defensive midfielder Mswati Mavuso at Usuthu was imminent after he impressed while the club was assessing him.

Now, the KZN-based outfit has confirmed the acquisition of the 22-year-old who’ll strengthen their midfield following the departure of Makhehleni Makhaula.

Mavuso is the fourth signing made by AmaZulu in the mid-season. He joins Junior Dion, Guily Manziba, and Jody February [on loan from Sundowns].

“We’re happy to have him, he’s going to bring more options for us in the midfield,”ย Folz said on the media open day.

“He’s a young player, I think he’s gonna gel nicely with the team. He’s good technically, he has an impact physically, so we’re happy to have him.

“And we can only encourage him to push.”

In spite of his young age, Mavuso brings some experience from Europe having had a stint with Europa Point in the Gibraltar National League.

While he also played his youth football at Bidvest Wits, he had stints with Mbombela United, Witbank Spurs, Stellenbosch FC, and Steenberg [loan from Stellenbosch].

The Vryheid-born also represented the South Africa national team under 17 and 20.

Meanwhile, with Usuthu having set themselves a vision for 2032, recruiting young players for the long-term is part of the plan.

Talking to FARPost earlier this week, the club’s president Sandile Zungu stated that he beholds Mavuso as the future.

โ€œHeโ€™s a future defensive midfielder of the likes of Makhaula,โ€ he said.

“Heโ€™s someone with exceptional potential but we donโ€™t just sign someone because he has potential. We look at a whole lot of other factors.โ€

Mavuso will compete for the position with the likes of Tercious Malepe and Keagan Buchanan who can also be utilised as a deep-lying midfielder.
