Gavin Hunt explains why he refers to Njabulo Blom as his son

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has explained why he often refers to the former Kaizer Chiefs player, Njabulo Blom as his son on social media.

Hunt worked with the young midfielder during his brief stint with Chiefs between 2020 and 2021.

And despite having led Amakhosi to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League with Blom performing well under his guidance, the tactician got sacked after a series of poor results on the domestic front.

The two have since taken different journeys, with Hunt now working as head coach at SuperSport United and Blom, plying his trade in the USA at the Major League Soccer [MLS] side St Louis City.

Hunt and Blom have stayed in contact since then, developing a special relationship. Their bond has been witnessed on social media in recent times, with Hunt referring to the 23-year-old as his son.

Hunt has explained the depth of his relationship with Blom and how the versatile youngster has remained in contact with him since he left Chiefs in the 2020/21 season.

HUNT EXPLAINS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH BLOM

“Yes, he has kept in touch with me; he has been asking for advice. We speak, and I’m happy for him that this move come around [Blom’s move to MLS],” Hunt told FARPost.

“I mean, he has got his agent and all of that; he has got his people that did the dealings and all that.

“But from a coach that has worked with him in the space of time, we still keep in touch.”

Hunt also informed the publication of the advice he shared with Blom about settling in a new environment that’s far from home.

“I have not really spoken to him much [since he arrived in the USA]; he has to settle down. But I will talk to him, I’m sure, in due course.

“We have really spoken much, but I told him that the cultural shock is going to be the biggest thing.

“Different country and food, he needs to get settled, and once he gets settled, then the football will take care of it,” Hunt concluded.
