Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns settle for a draw 

Al Ahly were held to a 2-all draw at home by Mamelodi Sundowns in a CAF Champions League group encounter at Al Salam Stadium on Saturday night.

The Brazilians’ attacking unit began the game brightly, creating a couple of clear-cut chances in the first opening minutes of the contest.

As the half wore on, the hosts tried to control the game well but sat back a little bit.

However, momentum swung back in favour of the DStv Premiership defending champions, pushing forward in numbers searching for an opener.

The visitors kept on coming, and the Egyptian giants could not contain their surge. 

Bafana Ba Style finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute of the game, courtesy of the Namibian international Peter Shalulile.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS GO INTO HALF-TIME BREAK LEADING

The showdown went into the interval with the Tshwane giants leading by 1-0.

The second half started in a similar pattern, with Masandawana fighting to maintain their lead. 

But, the turnaround was swift from the Red Devils who tried so hard to pull one back. 

As the second stanza , the showpiece got congested as both teams looked to establish control in midfield.

The home side missed a penalty in 50th minute, thanks to Ronwen Williams’ brilliant save. 

A few minutes later, Mohamed Abdelmonem leveled matters for Al Ahly. 

At this moment, the Red Devils were totally dictating the match, forcing Sundowns’ defence to make errors. 

In the 77th minute Hussein El Shahat added to the scoreline to put the hosts in front.

THAPELO MORENA COMES TO SUNDOWNS’ RESCUE

Sundowns never got discouraged as they bounced back to find an equaliser by Thapelo Morena in the 80th minute. 

The final whistle blew with nothing to separate both sides after the end-to-end second half at Moses Mabhida Stadium..
