Arthur Zwane explains why it’s important for Chiefs to play in the CL

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane says it’s important for his side to finish the league at the top so they play in the CAF Champions League next season.

The last time Chiefs played in the inter African elite club competition were defeated in the final. They lost three nil to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in July 2021 at Stade Mohammed V.

Arthut Zwane guided the team to the final as an interim coach after Gavin Hunt was sacked following a string of poor results.

He, however, wasn’t incharge of the final showdown as the club had identified and appointed a replacement coach, Stuart Baxter.

IMPORTANCE OF PLAYING IN THE CL

“We play to win every game, even though the results have been fluctuating. We would love to be up there because I’ve tasted the sweetness of being in the Champions League,” Zwane told the media.

“That’s the only time that we can grow as a team and our players as well will grow in participating in such a demanding competitive league.

“It’s good for us, it’s good for our supporters. The history of the club says we have to compete at that level year in, year out.”

GRINDING RESULTS

Zwane further stressed out the importance of grinding results in every match they play, not only focus on beating Pirates.

“It’s another six points for us, I don’t want my players to only focus on beating Orlando Pirates. We want to beat every team that we come across because the league is a marathon

“At the moment we trying to get the team going, we need some chemistry, tactical understanding. We focus more on grinding the results while we fixing ourselves and trying to improve our game,” he added.

On Saturday, Chiefs returned to winning ways defeating Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates one nil in the DStv Premiership.

The victory was vital as they closed the gap from second placed SuperSport United to only three five points. Chiefs are at par with Pirates and Richards Bay with 31 points.
