Annoyed Zungu speaks his mind after officials’ dubious decision in KZN derby

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has frankly said his piece following officials’ questionable decision during Usuthu’s clash with Royal AM in the DStv Premiership match.

The match took place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup iconic venue, Moses Mabhida Stadium, on Saturday night.

After an entertaining 90 minutes of action, it ended in a 1-1 stalemate. While seeking an equaliser, AmaZulu were denied what seemed like a clear goal in the 53rd minute.

Hendrick Ekstein put the ball at the back of the net, and the referee, Luxolo Badi, initially pointed to the centre. However, the assistant referee Simukele Jali raised the flag for offside.

With many having seen the footage, this has created immense controversy and criticism of the officials who were in charge of the match.

Now, Zungu has implied that he believes some referees are bought off to favour their opponents. He says he’s gotten accustomed to seeing his side being victims of referees’ questionable decisions.

“AmaZulu gets cheated game after game. Me thinks money changes hands to deliver us unfavourable outcomes.

“It’s sickening if you ask me. That’s why SA soccer is sliding backwards.”

Zungu, who has big ambitions for his club, went on to say as a “serious investor” in football, he’s gradually losing hope for the future.

‘I SMELL A RAT!’

“As serious investors in soccer, I just cannot see a sustainable future for a sports product where unfacharacterisescterises 90 minutes of entertainment,” he added.

“How do you explain the behaviour of referee Luxolo Badi and linesman Simukele Jali – denying AmaZulu a clear goal? I smell a rat!”

AmaZulu sit in 11th position on the log standings with 25 points after 21 games. They are next in action with Chippa United on Saturday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, with kick-off set for 15:30.
