Arthur Zwane identifies worrying Chiefs flaw seen against Pirates
Kaizer Chiefs, under the tutelage of Arthur Zwane, have faced five teams that finished the match with one man short this season.
All five encounters were in the DStv Premiership against Marumo Gallants, Stellenbosch FC, Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy and Orlando Pirates.
In those five instances, Chiefs sweated to see off the game, managing three wins and drawing twice.
Zwane has pointed out his team’s struggle to defeat opponents with a numerical disadvantage as a worrying issue that gives him a headache.
FACING TEAMS WITH A RED CARD
According to Zwane, struggling to manage the game when facing teams with a red card is a concern because they usually practise such drills at training.
“It’s really not [difficult], but obviously, it’s worrying me a bit. I don’t know why, even though at training at some point we try those functional sessions or drills,” Zwane told the media.
“[We try] to make sure we explore the right places at the right time, just to draw them where we can create more goal-scoring opportunities.
“It’s a case of mindset now to keep in doing it. When they are one man down, let’s pile pressure on them. Let’s not take the foot off the pedal.”
WHY CHIEFS’ OPPONENTS GET RED CARDS
Zwane also stated why most of the teams get red cards when they are playing against Chiefs.
“All these teams that end up with a man down, it’s because of the pressure that we put on them, and we force them to make mistakes,” he added.
The Glamour Boys’ next assignment is on the road as they travel to Durban to face Richards Bay FC on 4 March in their bid to finish second on the log and qualify for the CAF Champions League next season.
