Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker extends dry spell in Zambia

It was another dry weekend for a former Kaizer Chiefs striker in the Zambia Super League as his side Zesco United lost 1-0 away to FC Muza.

The striker has now failed to score his last two matches after scoring four goals in his first three matches since joining Zesco in January on a six-month loan deal from Young Africans of Tanzania.

Lazarous Kambole is seemingly having a dip in form following his great start to life in Zesco colours.

In the game against Muza, Kambole’s best chance to break his dry spell came in the 47th minute when  Muza goalkeeper Monga Ndala parried his shot but Collins Sikombe shot on the rebound was ruled out for offside.

Kambole was substituted in the 86th minute and replaced by midfielder Spencer Sautu.

And Ex-Platinum Stars and Baroka FC goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe was in goals for Zesco.

Elsewhere, it was a quiet day for Justin Shonga at Nkwazi who lost 2-0 at home to Green Buffaloes while Augustine Mulenga’s Napsa Stars played out to a goalless home draw against Kansanshi Dynamos.

Meanwhile, ex-Moroka Swallows and Chipolopolo striker James Chamanga ended his four-month goal drought on Saturday in defending Zambian champions Red Arrows’ home win over Chambishi FC.

Fifth-placed Arrows beat struggling Chambishi 5-1 at home in Lusaka to record their biggest league win of the season.

And it was Chamanga who sparked Arrows’ path to victory when he opened scoring with a curling free kick in the 19th minute that saw the hosts take a two-nil halftime lead.

The 43-year-old striker could have added another goal in the 59th minute but sent his attempt inches high over the bar.

Chamanga was later substituted in the 75th minute when he made way for last season’s golden boot winner Ricky Banda who has yet to score this season.

The veteran striker took his tally to four goals this season after a dry spell stretching back to November 5, 2022, in Arrows’ 1-1 home draw against second placed Forest Rangers.

Chamanga scored a stoppage-time equaliser in that match to hand the 2021/2022 Zambian champions a point.
