Clinton Larsen throws in the towel

Magesi FC head coach Clinton Larsen has thrown in the towel, stating that his men do not stand a chance of gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers, Magesi FC are16 points behind current log leaders Casric Stars with 10 matches remaining in the SA second-tier league.

Clinton Larsen’s troops are also 15 points adrift of the promotion playoff spot which is currently occupied by Cape Town Spurs and Polokwane City.

Larsen has told his players to forget about promotion and rather focus on trying to reach the 30 points target as quickly as possible.

With just two wins in the last eight matches, Magesi are in the 10th spot. They will host Polokwane City in the Limpopo Derby on Wednesday afternoon, 01 March 2023.

WHY CLINTON LARSEN HAS GIVEN UP ON PROMOTION

“We can forget about promotion now, we can forget. We need five points to get to 30 points and we are safe. Which is a win and two draws from 10 games and that’s all we need,” said Larsen.

“We need to focus on making sure we get there because the bottom teams are all fighting for the same thing. So we have to put ourselves out of that group now.

“We are only on 25 points, yes there is still 30 points to play for and we only need five to be safe. But the quicker we do it the better for us.
