Sundowns coach Mokwena gives Terrance Mashego and Lebo Maboe injury update

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has issued an update on the injuries of defender Terrence Mashego and attacker Lebohang Maboe.

Both players have been missing in action for several months on the sidelines.

Maboe last featured during Sundowns’ 3-0 win against Royal AM in October 2022 while Mashego only featured once since his much publicized move from Cape Town City. This was during a 10 win against AmaZulu in September.

RULANI MOKWENA CONFIRMS TERRENCE MASHEGO RETURN

Rulani Mokwena has now revealed that Mashego is back training with the rest of the squad but breaking into the team might be difficult.

“Terrence is back on the pitch. He is on the green grass and he has played a couple of friendly games for us,” said Mokwena.

“A little bit difficult because there is some form of medical history with regards to the injury that he picked up the last time.

“It’s a little bit delicate because you could go into a space of developing a chronic situation, so we have to take it a little bit easy and tread a little bit carefully in that situation.

“Fortunately we have a very experienced medical team and that space is qualified with regard to the management of injuries.

“So he is on the green grass now and he is working hard to regain form and confidence and gradual match fitness to be able to compete for a position,” he said.

“It’s not going to be easy because there are very good players in that position who have done extremely well like Modiba and Ngobeni. So he now has to compete for a space but of course he is a very good player that we bought knowing his qualities and we look forward to his return.”
