How David Notoane plans to deal with Cassius Mailula Bafana dilemma
National Under 23 coach David Notoane has revealed how he plans to deal with the national team dilemma over Cassius Mailula.
Mailula has been good so much that it’s easy to imagine him breaking into the Bafana Bafana squad.
The 21-year-old is also eligible to play in the Under 23 national team. At the moment, Mailula is the best-performing South African forward in the DStv Premiership.
Without doubt, his credentials are likely to entice Hugo Broos as he prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Liberia.
WHAT DAVID NOTOANE IS PLANNING
And Notoane has expressed interest in having Mailula play for his Under 23s but only if the player is overlooked by Broos.
“He is eligible for both Bafana Bafana and the Under 23. Of course, I will be guided by Hugo Broos in terms of his election.
“Based on that I will be on an informed position on the route to take. His talent is undoubted as seen by the kind of the game he played against Al Ahly.
“He did well against a top team that came from the Club World Cup. So it already shows his capability to help us qualify for the Olympics and the AFCON.
“He can do well but if he has go through Bafana Bafana, I will respect that because that is where he will get more experience.
“And we can only benefit from him as long he is exposed. So like any other player, we have an exciting pool of players,” Notoane told FARPost.
The rising star, Mailula, has already scored 12 goals in all competitions. In the DStv Premiership, he has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 11 games.
The Limpopo-born winger is two goals behind his teammate and leading DStv Premiership goalscorer Peter Shalulile.
As a result of his impressive exploits, he has reportedly caught the eye of a Ligue 1 side.
