What Walter Steenbok has achieved since joining SAFA as technical director

Walter Steenbok has revealed what he has achieved since joining SAFA as the technical director five months ago.

Steenbok’s position at SAFA is deemed as one of the most “highly pressured jobs” in South African sport.

The ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns head scout has since opened up on what he has done so far.

And also touched on how much he has managed to get done in the five months.

WHAT WALTER STEENBOK HAS ACHIEVED

“In terms of what I have done, the first was to understand the organisation [SAFA] better because my whole life has been club football and instruction,” Steenbok told SAFA’s media department.

“When you then come into the Association, you have got to adjust and understand things a little bit better. So that has been the most important thing there.

“And what I have done, with the help of FIFA, CAF and the Association, was to refine the development plan that is in place and bring a new strategic development plan that looks at everything.

“The plan has already been presented to the technical committee, to the Women’s Football Committee, to the Competitions Committee. It is waiting now to be presented at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.”

Steenbok divulged that the plan talks about everything, organogram that they think will be able to help the Association move forward as a football organisation.

“So, you want to have an organogram that speaks to the Football Association and also that talks to specific areas like Talent Identification,” he added.

“We have already employed two scouts who will be working to help us with the scouting in South Africa and overseas.”

THE TWO APPOINTED SCOUTS

The two appointed scouts are David Nyathi and Amajimbos assistant coach Aaron Mokoena.

“We have already won three trophies, the two Pan-African schools tournament for U15 and also the COSAFA U17 girls. They have also qualified for the AFCON,” explained Steenbok.

“We also expect the U23s and Bafana Bafana to qualify for AFCON. So we are very much on a positive target.”

Steenbok is hoping to continue with his stellar job at the South African football governing body. And at the same time let his work speak for itself.
