Wrapped in cotton wool: Why Hunt handles Bradley Grobler differently
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed why he handles striker Bradley Grobler in a different way compared to the rest of his players.
Grobler is nearing the end of his playing career. In the past seasons, the 35-year-old has had struggles with injury setbacks on many occasions. However, he has always defied the odds and come back stronger.
The striker has been in good form this season in front of goal. He’s the DStv Premiership top scorer with nine goals, at par with Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile.
GAVIN HUNT ON GROBLER
According to Hunt, he handles Grobler differently because he doesn’t want to overwork him.
“A player of Bradley… [age/injury history], you need to take care of him a bit more. We don’t want to flog him to death every day and run him every day,” Hunt told the media.
“He’s not going to learn how to play football. I can’t teach him how to play football. He’s at an age that he should know.
“We just need to wrap him up a little bit in the week, then let him go on a Saturday. I handle him a little bit different to try to have longevity in his career.”
GROBLER’S GOAL BEFORE RETIRING
Grobler, who recently scored his 100th PSL goal, revealed what he wants to achieve before he calls it time from playing football.
“I feel like I still got a couple of years to play, and I want to push now for that number one spot,” said Grobler.
Grobler will be aiming to increase his goal tally when they take on Golden Arrows on Sunday. Kickoff at Lucas Moripe Stadium is at 5:45pm.
