What Vincent Kompany said after Lyle Foster’s first goal for Burnley
Burnley FC manager Vincent Kompany has reacted to Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster’s first goal for the club.
Foster joined the English Championship side in January from Belgian side Westerlo. After eight appearances, the Soweto-born star was yet to hit the back of the net.
But on Saturday, 11 March, as The Clarets thrashed 10-man Wigan Athletic 3-0, he added his name onto the scoresheet.
The Bafana Bafana forward was introduced in the 63rd minute as the team was 2-0 up, thanks to Nathan Tella’s brace.
It only took the former Orlando Pirates striker 13 minutes to make an impact, scoring his debut goal making his presence felt at Turf Moor Stadium.
Kompany strongly believes Foster will score more goals for the Clarets, who are in the pole position to regain promotion to the Premier League.
VINCENT KOMPANY ON LYLE FOSTER
“We know he can score goals, he was perfect, and he was able to show some of his talents. I’m sure in the future he will be perfect for us,” said Kompany.
“I’m really happy for him. It just adds to the tally of the goal scorers we have in the team.
“We are happy we got to share some goals. Lyle Foster coming in and scoring his first goal, good goal, a striker’s goal.”
BURNLEY DOMINANCE
Foster’s side are now undefeated in 17 matches in all competitions after registering 13 wins and four draws. The last time they tasted defeat was in December 2022 against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup round of 16.
The emphatic victory saw them open a 13-point gap at the summit of the log as second-placed Sheffield suffered a 1-0 defeat to Luton Town. They have accumulated 80 points from 36 matches.
The 22-year-old will aim to continue finding the back of the net in the coming matches. They take on Hull City on Wednesday, 15 March.
He is then expected to be in action for Bafana’s crucial back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Liberia later this month.
