Jabu Mahlangu forced into Sundowns U-turn, makes bold Champions League prediction
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star Jabu Mahlangu hasn’t always been the biggest fan of Mamelodi Sundowns.
That’s judging by his comments a few weeks ago, where he suggested the Brazilians’ spending power is ‘weakening’ the DStv Premiership.
Downs have dominated the domestic scene in the past few years, and much of that dominance was sustained through their financial muscle, which allows them to attract the best players in the PSL constantly.
JABU MAHLANGU IMPRESSED BY MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
Mahlangu, though, now seems to be warming up to Downs following their exploits on the continent and believes they are doing the nation a good service.
Downs were in imperious form on Saturday, swatting aside 10-time African champions 5-2 at a packed Loftus Versfeld to send a strong message.
Mahlangu was left convinced Sundowns will win the Caf Champions League this season. He is adamant the 2016 African champions have what it takes to clinch their second continental title after watching them make light work of the record champions.
Mahlangu was full of praise for Rulani Mokwena’s side for restoring the pride of South African football with a stunning performance against one of the best teams in Africa.
“I must take this opportunity to congratulate Ka bo Yellow, Mamelodi Sundowns. Wow, what a great performance,” marvelled Mahlangu in a video on his social media pages.
“It was an amazing performance, excellent teamwork and great goals scored by the team.
“You know what, they really brought the heat to Al Ahly. So, well done to Sundowns, jealousy down.
“The performance that the players displayed was just on another level. I give it to them. Well done Masandawana.”
THE BOLD PREDICTION
He made his bold prediction as Sundowns now set their sights on the competition’s knockout stages, although they have two Group Stages fixtures left.
The South African champions are already through to the knockout stages as they lead Group B by 10 points, while Ahly are third on four points.
“Another star is loading. As South Africans, we are grateful to Sundowns because these Egyptians have disrespected us for a long time. The North African teams have disrespected us for a long time, so well done to Sundowns,” added Mahlangu.
“I think other South African teams, especially the players, can learn a lot from these guys (Sundowns). Well done to the entire Sundowns family.”
