Rulani Mokwena provides Grant Kekana injury update

Rulani Mokwena has provided an injury update on Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana.

The Bafana Bafana defender had to be substituted in Sundowns’ 5-1 win over Royal AM due to injury after he clashed with Ronwen Williams early in the first half.

Kekana, whom Brian Mandela replaced, could not continue with the game, raising fears he would be ruled out of action for a while.

However, after being attended to by the medical staff, Kekana joined his teammates on the bench. He was seen celebrating as Sundowns convincingly beat visiting Royal AM.

In his post-match interview, Mokwena gave an encouraging update on Kekana. He praised the club’s medical department for reacting swiftly to attend to him.

“We have to be careful, you know, we have to be very careful. We’ve got a top medical department, and they responded well. We also wanna thank the paramedics outside for also running in and being available for the call and attending to him,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV in a post-match interview.

Kekana has been sensational for the club, earning himself a national team call-up. Bafana coach Hugo Broos is set to announce his final 23-man squad on Thursday.

Haashim Domingo
Haashim Dimingo was also pulled out due to injury

Last week, he named 35 players in his preliminary squad to face Liberia in the two-legged AFCON qualifiers.

HOPING TO BE PART OF BAFANA SQUAD

Bafana host the Lone Stars on 24 March in Johannesburg before visiting them in Monrovia four days later.

Kekana will be hoping to be part of Broos’ side as they look to book a place in the next edition of the AFCON finals.

Meanwhile, Haashim Domingo also had to be pulled out after a chest injury during the Royal AM tie.

Although Mokwena never gave an update on him, indications are that the injury was not serious.

Domingo has struggled with injuries this season and recently returned from an injury layoff.
