Liverpool star Firmino could end up teaming up with Bafana star

With Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino announcing he won’t be signing a new contract with the Merseyside club, there is a possibility he could share a dressing room with a Bafana Bafana star.

Several overseas teams are reportedly tracking him, with the English giants having accepted he will leave.

Firmino has been integral to Liverpool’s success, helping the club end the 30-year topflight title drought under Jurgen Klopp.

They were crowned Premier League champions at the end of the 2019/20 season, ending three decades of agony.

In 355 outings for the Reds, he has bagged an impressive 108 goals and provided 79 assists. The Brazilian will, therefore, not struggle to find a new home considering his stats.

Fascinatingly though, according to British media, two of the 31-year-old’s biggest suitors are in Italy and the United States of America.

It is reported that Firmino worked with the St Louis City sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, in Germany, at Hoffenheim, where he scored 49 goals in 153 matches.

The reunion of the two will be the perfect ideal situation for the club and Blom.

“He may now be headed for the United States, as reports in The Sun claim that St Louis City, who joined the MLS at the start of this year, are interested in signing the Liverpool star,” said the Daily Mail.

“It may be a good option for Firmino, as sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel was on the staff at Hoffenheim in the striker’s time there,” wrote the Daily Mail.

The US side keen on his services is home to Njabulo Blom signed for the newly formed MLS side St Louis City in December 2022 from Kaizer Chiefs.

The 23-year-old has played two games but recently missed St Louis’ third game of the season due to illness.

Blom’s side has had a good start in the MLS [Western Conference], winning their first three games of the season.

However, with recent reports coming from England, it appears that the club’s ambitions are higher than expected. It’s not final that the Brazilian will end up at St Louis, with other teams also eyeing him.
