Percy Tau on target as Al Ahly demolish Coton Sport
Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau was on target as Al Ahly demolished hapless Coton Sport of Cameroon 4-0 in a CAF Group B encounter.
After succumbing to an embarrassing 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns last Saturday, Al Ahly threw themselves a lifeline to advance to the knockout phase of the CAF Champions League.
However, their fate rests in the hands of Group B leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who play Al Hilal in a decisive match on Saturday, 18 March, in Sudan.
On song Tau started with the game and scored again after hitting the target in the loss to Sundowns in Pretoria.
His recent stellar displays have seen him reclaiming his place in the Bafana Bafana final squad. Hugo Broos’ charges will face Liberia this month for AFCON qualifiers.
The Egyptian powerhouse have won twice, drawn once and lost two games in the group stage phase. This is definitely one of their bad performances in the tournament in a long time.
AL AHLY SECURE A VITAL WIN
A hattrick by Mahmoud Kahraba and the goal from Tau were enough to earn Al Ahly a win.
Just six days ago, Koller was begging Mamelodi Sundowns to play fair as he was starting to fill the heat.
The Red Devils will be hoping the red-hot Brazilians defeat Al-Hilal. This will be for them to stand a chance of progressing to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
THE CHANCES OF AL AHLY ADVANCING TO THE NEXT ROUND ARE VERY SLIM
It won’t be a walk in the park for Al Ahly. The sides’ chances of missing out on the knockout phase for the first time after so many years are big.
Even if Sundowns do them a favour by beating Al-Hilal tomorrow, they themselves have to defeat the Saudi Arabian side.
As things stand, Al Ahly are placed third in Group B Standings with 7 points, just two points behind second-placed Al-Hilal.
