Bartlett tips one player for a huge Motsepe Foundation milestone

Bafana Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett has tipped one of his key players for a huge milestone in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Bartlett is seven matches away from leading Cape Town Spurs to a return to the DStv Premiership, that’s if they maintain their log position.

Spurs are frontrunners in the race for promotion after amassing 47 points from 23 matches.

They have also scored the most goals [33] in the league so far while conceding 19. One player who has been in tremendous form this season is South Africa junior international Ashley Cupido.

Cupido is the league’s leading top goal scorer with 14 goals. This is a huge improvement for the player who scored a combined seven goals in the last two seasons.

MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TIPPED FOR HUGE MILESTONE

His head coach at Spurs, Shaun Bartlett, believes Cupido has what it takes to achieve a 20-goal feat this season.

“He is a boy that’s got a great eye for goals; he scored 14 of those goals from a wing position,” said Bartlett.

“It’s not easy because he is not a striker. But a lot of the goals coming from the wide coming in, taking shots and things like that. So he just needs to keep his feet grounded. As a team, we work hard and create opportunities, and he is there to finish them off. I am pretty sure he can get to 20 goals come the end of the season.

BAFANA LEGEND SHAUN BARTLETT LAUDS EXPERIENCE

Bartlett believes one of the key factors for them this season has been their ability to blend youth and experienced campaigners. Spurs have the likes of Nazeer Allie, Clayton Daniels and Michael Morton.

“That’s why we are in that position at this particular time. We have a very good balanced team with experience and youth. So far, it has been working well for us in terms of how they have been managing games and how we manage them as players,” added Bartlett.
