MARUMO GALLANTS SUFFER HEAVY DEFEAT BUT QUALIFY FOR LAST EIGHT

It was the second loss in the group for Gallants who are still on top of the log and have secured their place in the knockout stage.

The Libyan side scored their goals through a brace by Manuel Afonso and a goal each from Anas Alraheem and Mohamed Makari.

USM Alger and Saint Eloi FC Lupopo played to a 1-1 draw earlier on. The result means Alger have eight points while Lupopo and Al Akhdar have five each. Gallants will host Lupopo in their last group A match on 2 April while Alger will host Al Akhdar in Algeria.

The match between Gallants and Al Akhdar was not short of controversy. The match had to be temporarily stopped for a few minutes after the lights went off. This delayed the completion of the first half. Marumo Gallants also had an unusual look as they came out wearing a black and white addicts kit instead of their usual Monflair Green kit. This is a development that FARPost will be following up on.

MARUMO GALLANTS SHIFT FOCUS

Gallants will now shift focus to the domestic league where they have to fight to save their status. They are currently bottom of the DStv Premiership with seven matches remaining

Their fixture against Royal AM on Saturday, 1 April is set to be moved to a later date. Upon their return to domestic action, they will travel to Kaizer Chiefs on 8 April.
