Polokwane City coach predicts how the league will conclude
Polokwane City FC coach Duncan Lechasa has given an honest assessment of how the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship will conclude.
He strongly believes it will go down to the wire as the league title will be decided on the last day on Saturday 14 May.
The second-tier league has turned into a three-horse race. Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars and City have emerged as the serious title contenders eying the gold to automatically qualify for the DStv Premiership next season.
The trio are only separated by a point with seven games left to wrap up the campaign.
Spurs are at the top with 47 points, City and Stars are second and third respectively at par with 46 points. They are separated by a goal difference.
LECHASA ON THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
“Seven games to go, still a long way. We’re equal it’s, only the goals,” said Lechasa.
“It’s Spurs at the top then us and then Casric Stars. So we will still keep pushing, it’s going to be tough but we will push.”
City made it difficult for themselves after losing 1-0 to Casric Stars at home last time out. They missed out on an opportunity to go back at the summit of the log to restore their two-point cushion.
They have all to play for, however it’s going to be difficult as they will be facing teams on the top and bottom of the log fighting different battles of their own.
