Why Arthur Zwane didn’t panic after conceding against Maritzburg

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed why he didn’t panic when they blew their two-goal lead against Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership.

Chiefs started like a house on fire, scoring two quick goals inside the first 10 minutes through skipper Keagan Dolly and Christian Saile.

They, however, took the foot off the pedal and allowed the hosts back into the game. The teams went on the break deadlocked at 2-2.

Yusuf Maart then scored a winner in the second half from the spot kick as the Soweto giants made it four victories in all competitions.

ZWANE ON BLOWING THE TWO-GOAL LEAD

“I did not panic at all, to be honest, simply because I believe in our players. I believe that as soon as we take control of the game, we can create chances and be able to score,” said Zwane.

“We had Ashley [Du Preez] on the field, Christian, Keagan and Mdu [Shabalala]. We can create goal-scoring opportunities and be dangerous.

“We could have done better, and we have room for improvement. We’ll keep on grinding the results, and we’ll keep on working hard until we get it right.”

LUCKY VICTORY

Zwane admitted they were lucky to walk away with the maximum points in a five-goal thriller.

“I think we were fortunate to get maximum points. We believe we could have done better when we were leading two nil. Not so many teams manage to score two goals early here and get maximum points.

“We conceded easy goals, and we knew the team we were facing was going to be aggressive and wanted it more than us. Also, they are playing at home, and they are doing very well though they have been unfortunate in terms of getting the results.

The victory saw Amakhosi keep their dream of playing in the CAF Champions League next season alive.

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are two points behind second-placed SuperSport United, who sit on 39 points with seven games left to wrap up the season.
