Cassius Mailula has his say on timing of Europe move

Red-hot Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula has had his say on the timing of a move to Europe.

Mailula is having an unforgettable season for Sundowns, having scored 14 goals and provided four assists in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has become an integral part of the Brazilians’ squad on the verge of winning the sixth successive DStv Premiership title.

POTENTIAL MOVE TO EUROPE

The Downs academy graduate has also taken his form to the CAF Champions League, where they are through to the knockout stages.

Thanks to his form, there has been talk of a potential move to Europe. Just last week, Coach Hugo Broos said it was too early for the young forward to make an overseas switch.

“You have to be careful about sending such a player too soon to Europe,” Broos told journalists.

“Honestly, I don’t think he’s ready for Europe. Mailula is doing very well; it’s his first season, last season, he played a few games, but now he’s made a breakthrough.”

Nonetheless, Broos has Mailula in his Bafana squad that will face Liberia in a two-legged AFCON qualifier.

CASSIUS MAILULA HAS HIS SAY

Speaking to Bafana Bafana media officer Romy Titus on the sidelines of the ongoing camp, Mailula addressed the issue.

“I think in that situation, everything will happen in its own time. I don’t need to rush anything.

“If it has to happen too early, it wouldn’t be a problem. But I think I don’t have to rush anything. If it has to happen after a season, it’s also fine with me.

“I believe it will happen at the right time. For now, my focus is on Sundowns and helping the national team,” he said.

Mailula will be hoping to get a taste of action when Bafana host the Lone Stars on Friday at the Orlando Stadium.

Bafana will then visit the West Africans in Liberia on Tuesday next week for a make-or-break encounter.
