Jose Riveiro reveals Evidence Makgopa’s best position

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the best position he believes Evidence Makgopa will fit in and help the team succeed.

Makgopa joined Pirates ahead of the current season after Baroka FC were relegated from the DStv Premiership.

The 22-year-old didn’t have a great start with the Soweto giants as he was on the sidelines due to a lengthy injury setback.

He has since recovered and is still trying to find his scoring form.

The Bafana Bafana international has so far made four appearances in all competitions. In all matches, he was coming in from the bench.

He is yet to open his scoring account for the Sea Robbers but has one assist to his name.

MAKGOPA’S BEST POSITION

According to Riveiro, Makgopa is player with great potential, but he’s not a natural number nine, as he plays in spaces.

“I think he has a fantastic potential to be an important player [for the club]. I think Evidence is not exactly a target player, he’s not a number nine,” said Riveiro.

“He’s a number nine that needs spaces to explode, to run. We need a player that can manage with physics. Those are spaces that we feel Makgopa could use better for us.

“We need someone there, fresh to deal with that. To put the centre backs together at the same time use the space that we’re creating.”

With seven matches left to wrap up the 2022/23 season, Makgopa will be hoping for more game time to improve his form and boost his confidence.
