Why Chippa players might not enjoy the FIFA break

Chippa United coach Kurt Lentjies has welcomed the two-week FIFA international break but has warned why his players may not.

The Chilli Boys played to a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United this past weekend. They are five points above the relegation spot and five points below the top eight with seven matches to go.

All PSL clubs will have to take a break from domestic football as the FIFA break starts on Monday 20-28 March.

While it normally comes as a relief for clubs to recharge, Lentjies insists there won’t be any time to relax but instead work hard ahead of the last seven matches.

LENTJIES PLANS FOR THE FIFA INTERNATIONAL BREAK

“A two week break I would probably welcome it but the players won’t because it’s going to be hard work,” he said.

“Obviously they want to be on the football field more than anything else. So it’s two weeks but obviously, we are going to lose internationals as well.

“So, we have to think about how we work because we don’t want to work too much on things and when the internationals come and we start from scratch again so there is work that needs to be done as every other team has,” added Lentjies who recently took over from Morgan Mammila.

“Like I said we have seven more league games to fight for so I welcome this two week break and the players have to accept that it is like that as well.

CHIPPA UNITED OPTIMISTIC ABOUT A TOP EIGHT SPOT

“For me, it’s about togetherness. We need to fight together and work towards what we want to achieve, which is obviously safety. We are also looking up to the sky because there is a possibility that it gets really tight for us to sneak into the top eight but that obviously will require consistency from our point of view so it is up for the taking.”
