What does the future hold for Khama Billiat at Kaizer Chiefs?
Khama Billiat’s contract at Kaizer Chiefs is going to run out at the end of the current season.
When the next PSL transfer window opens, he’ll be a free agent if Chiefs don’t grant him a new deal.
Meanwhile, the former Zimbabwe forward hasn’t laced up his boots for action for a while now due to the long-term injury he’s been nursing.
In February, he was ruled out for the remainder of the season after he went for surgery to repair a torn groin muscle.
The injury added to the loads of problems that the 32-year-old had already been enduring.
It also robbed him of an opportunity to elevate his game before the club decides whether it keeps him.
This publication contacted Billiat’s representative, Godfrey Bakasa, who chose to be non-committal about the future of his client.
AGENT REMAINS COY ABOUT FUTURE OF KHAMA BILLIAT AT KAIZER CHIEFS
“Unfortunately, now I’m not at liberty to divulge anything about the Chiefs situation as I’m still in Zim [Zimbabwe],” he said.
“But will do so when I’m in SA soon.”
Billiat is among the highest earners at Chiefs, which could be another reason that’s likely to prompt his exit in order for the club to cut costs.
Since joining from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018, he hasn’t cut the mustard. And as a result, at times, he has dealt with criticism for failing to deliver what he came to the club for.
The Harare-born has had a season to forget in this campaign. He has only been in action 11 times in all competitions in which he provided three assists and didn’t score.
In his overall stay at Chiefs, he has played over 120 games in which he scored 24 goals and provided 29 assists.
