SAFA reiterates Hugo Broos mandate

Hugo Broos will lead Bafana Bafana during the upcoming back-to-back CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Liberia with a clear mandate from SAFA.

South Africa are second in Group K of the AFCON qualifications in a three-nation group including Morocco. The Atlas Lions are favourites to qualify after winning the opening twitches of the qualifying campaign. This includes a 2-1 win over Bafana in June last year.

After their failure to qualify for the 2021 edition in Cameroon, Bafana Bafana will be desperate to return to Africa’s main international men’s tournament.

HUGO BROOS UNDERSTANDS SAFA MANDATE

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has reiterated the association’s stance on why it remains one of Broos’ mandates to qualify for Ivory Coast.

“He understands clearly; we want to qualify,” Jordaan told the SAFA media team.

“In 2019, that was our last Afcon in Egypt. The team did very well there, and we expected further growth and progress. But when he came in, he took the team apart, totally started with new players, and now they have managed to build a formidable team,” he said.

DANNY JORDAAN OPTIMISTIC AHEAD OF LIBERIA CLASH

“It’s a long time coming, we have to qualify for Afcon, and this is our moment. I think he has assembled a very strong squad, with Percy Tau and Lyle Foster both doing very well. So we have a reason to be optimistic.

“We are happy that all the players have arrived and there were no withdrawals. So it’s different this time, and it means that everybody is focused and understands that these two matches against Liberia is make or break,” added Jordaan.

“The coach is very confident, so we are looking forward to a very positive result when they take on Liberia.”

Tickets for the match can be purchased at Ticketpro at a cost of R40 for adults and R20 for children aged 15 years and younger.
