The gloves are off as Liberia coach vows to take Bafana head-on

The gloves are off as Liberia head coach Ansu Keita vows to take Bafana Bafana head-on in the CAF AFCON qualifiers.

South Africa will welcome the West African side at Orlando Stadium this evening in the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers.

The kick-off is scheduled for 18:00 in Soweto.

Hugo Broos’ charges will then jet off to Monrovia for the second leg set to take place on Tuesday, 28 March 2023.

Speaking ahead of the eagerly-awaited mouthwatering encounter, Keita confidently said that they are not afraid of Bafana.

The new Liberian mentor reckons that they are here to compete and nothing will intimidate them.

And getting maximum points is what Keita’s side is gunning for in their quest to qualify for the 2023 AFCON tournament due to take place in Ivory Coast.

THE GLOVES ARE OFF

“Well, having lost one game in the group doesn’t mean anything for us,” Keita told the media.

“I think Bafana Bafana also lost a game. And we are here to play for qualification, and I’m very confident of my team.

“What I believe in football is that we have to get results. A win, a loss, or a draw no matter what happens on the day, one of those will happen.”

‘WE ARE HERE TO COMPETE’

Keita continued: “We are here to compete. And we are not coming here to be afraid of South Africa. We are here to play. Nothing will scare us.”

Currently, Liberia sit third in Group K without a point, just like Bafana, who occupies second place. Also, with nothing to show off. Goal difference is what separates both nations.

Meanwhile, Bafana coach, Broos, is also determined to leave no stone unturned, as he is well aware of the mammoth task that lies ahead.
