Demoted Khabo Zondo opens up on relationship with John Maduka
Khabo Zondo has opened up on his relationship with the current head coach of the DStv Premiership side Royal AM John Maduka.
Zondo, who was Thwihli Thwahla’s co-coach along with Abram Nteo, was demoted from his coaching role.
The reports suggest that he’s now serving in the development while the club is yet to confirm.
He has commended Maduka for being co-operative. However, he stressed the importance of granting the Malawian coach a space as a head coach.
KHABO ZONDO ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH JOHN MADUKA
“Very open-minded someone, talks to everyone,” Zondo told FARPost.
“To be honest, because I’ve coached him before, he’s been my captain at Bloemfontein Celtic.
“I know what he’s capable of. I’m not surprised that he’s able to deliver what he’s been delivering right now.
“He welcomes everyone in his team in terms of advice and all that. We talk from time to time.
“But I’m not a kind of a person that is always wanting to be too close to him in regards to advising and all.
“I give him that space so that he applies his mind properly and what he thinks of his team.
“He’s a head coach and he knows that he’s got to take care of his own role which he’s doing very well.”
Since returning to AM, Maduka has overseen seven games in all competitions. He has won four, drawn two and lost one.
He’s hoping that he can help the club secure the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup spot again just like in the previous campaign before he went to Maritzburg United.
This season they took part in the Confederation Cup after finishing in the third position last season.
They currently sit ninth in the DStv Premiership standings with 29 points after 23 games.
They are next on action against the struggling Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 5 April. The match will be played at Free State Stadium at 19:30.
