Update on SA Under 23 side’s 11 missing bags
An official travelling with the SA Under 23 national team in Congo Brazzaville has provided an update on the 11 missing bags.
The Under 23s arrived in Brazzaville on Friday afternoon only to discover that 11 bags were missing.
The bags contained personal clothing, training equipment and an alternative playing kit.
Rwandair, the airline they used, had assurances that they would do everything possible to get the bags.
11 MISSING BAGS FINALLY FOUND
The airline contacted an official on Saturday afternoon to confirm that the bags had been located.
“We got our bags eventually, and everything was still intact. But SAFA had bought us the necessary items,” a player told FARPost.
The official travelling with the team confirmed the development, saying the items came in time for their training session.
David Notoane’s charges were set to hold their first training session at 5pm on Saturday.
They are preparing to face Congo Brazzaville in the return leg of the AFCON Under 23 qualifier.
Congo managed to get a 1-1 draw at Dobsonville Stadium on Thursday.
South Africa will be hoping to get a win to proceed to the next round of the qualifiers.
TALENTS IN THE SA UNDER 23 TEAM
In his squad, Notoane has talents like Mduduzi Shabalala and Samkelo Zwane of Kaizer Chiefs, the duo of Ashley Cupido and Boitumelo Radiopane, AmaZulu’s Ethan Brooks and Stellenbosch FC duo Devin Titus and Antonio van Wyk.
They have enough motivation as playing in Morocco in July and in France next year in July is at stake.
Morocco hosts the Under 23 Africa Cup of Nations, while the next edition of the Olympics will be in France next year.
The must-win encounter for South Africa U/23s against Congo-Brazzaville will take place on Monday, 27 March, at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat.
