Durban to host CAF African Schools Football Championship finals

Durban is set to host the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental final phase from 05 to 08 April at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

The programme attracted more than 44 000 learners under the age of 15 from 41 countries in the African continent.

The journey started with schools competition at the national level and then the zonal phase. It is now at the climax, the continental phase.

According to the statement from CAF, Motsepe Foundation donated R181 700 000, making it one of the richest school events in the continent.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe first introduced the CAF African Schools Football Championship in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in April 2021.

He highlighted the importance of investing in schools and youth football for Africa to compete with the rest of the world in the future.

“The best investment we can make to ensure that African football is amongst the best in the world and self-sustaining is to invest in football and youth football development infrastructure for boys and girls at club and national level,” he said.

“This is one of my key focus areas as President of CAF.”
