David Thidiela’s plea to Black Leopards faithful
With things certainly looking gloomy for the club, Black Leopards chairman David Thidiela has sent a special plea to their supporters.
Leopards have over 23 years of campaigning in the PSL in both the Premiership and the second-tier league.
It took two years for the club to gain promotion from the National First Division to the DStv Premiership after Thidiela took over the ownership in 1998.
BLACK LEOPARDS PSL LONG HISTORY
Their biggest achievement so far was finishing in the top eight in 2001/02 under coach Gavin Hunt. They emulated the same feat in the 2003/04 season.
Lidoda Duvha also reached the final of the Nedbank Cup in 2011 and subsequently went on to represent the country in the CAF confederation Cup.
The club is one of the most supported clubs in the country. But that rich history is in serious danger due to their worrying Motsepe Foundation Championship log position.
Leopards are bottom of the log, eight points below the safety spot with only six matches remaining.
Speaking to FARPost, club boss Thidiella remains positive about survival and has urged the club’s faithful to rally behind them.
DAVID THIDIELA’S PLEA TO LIDODA DUVHA MASSES
“We are doing everything in our power and we appreciate their support. Let’s still go in big numbers to the stadium and support the team. We will do everything we can to save the team,” he said.
The Owen Da Gama-coached side will not have it easy in their quest for survival. They face Baroka in a Limpopo derby on Sunday, 2 April. The game is important for both sides as Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele are also not safe from relegation.
After that, their remaining five games will be against TTM, Hungry Lions, Platinum City Rovers, All Stars and neighbours Venda Football Academy.
