Eric Mathoho details his injury setback, issues an update
Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho has detailed how he got an injury which saw him unavailable for selection for the club in their previous matches.
Mathoho, whose contract with Chiefs is expiring at the end of the campaign, has been unlucky with injury setbacks.
The 31-year-old has only played one minute in the DStv Premiership this season, back in September 2022, against SuperSport United.
His latest injury happened about three weeks back, chances of him returning before the season ends were slim. He, however, has recovered quickly and has started training as he working on regaining his strength and fitness.
HOW MATHOHO GOT INJURED
“The way I got my injury, we were playing a friendly match with the DDC team [reserve side]. I was sprinting, and I was trying to tackle the ball, the way I landed was bad,” said Mathoho.
“I couldn’t point if it was groin or hamstring injury because my leg was painful. After that, I went for a scan.
“I’ve been out for three weeks now. I feel much better. I’m not feeling it [pain] anymore.”
UPDATE ON MATHOHO’S INJURY
Mathoho, together with the team’s physiotherapist David Miller, gave some positive news, stating when the player is expected to be back and fully fit.
“I was not running, I was just going to the gym and doing upper body. The rehab is going ok so far. I started running last week.
“We expect to have him back with the team after the FIFA international break,” said Miller.
Mathoho is therefore expected to be available for selection when the Soweto giants host Capetonians Stellenbosch FC on Saturday in the DStv Premiership.
Kickoff at FNB Stadium is at 5:30pm.
