Sweswe reveals another reason Chiefs will let Billiat go

Retired Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe has revealed one of the main reasons Amakhosi will likely let Khama Billiat leave.

There are mixed feelings over Billiat, whose contract with the Soweto giants expires at the end of the season.

All is now left for the negotiation table since he was denied an opportunity to justify his stay by a long-term injury.

His agent Godfrey Bakasa has been coy, about when the two parties will start negotiations for contracr renewal.

Last month, in February, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star Billiat was ruled out for the remainder of the PSL season after undergoing a delicate surgery on his groin.

He had played 11 times in all competitions this year, where he provided three assists, without a goal to his name.

At Kaizer Chiefs, the talented footballer played over 125 games, with just 24 goals under his belt.

The records, undoubtedly fall short of the expectations and the wages.

As his contract reaches it’s end, the retired Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe, says the club has more reasons to part ways with the player, than to keep him.

Sweswe believes, the club will choose to cut the wage bill by not renewing the players’ contract.

“I think they will likely not renew his contract because of the wages. He is one of the top earners at the club,” Sweswe told FARPost.

“The situation at the moment does not reflect anything about the players quality. He is a top player whose just going through a tough phase.”

Billiat remains one of the top earners at Kaizer Chiefs. The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker believed to be earning around R830 000 per month.

It is said that he is the second top earner after Keegan Dolly, who pockets over R1 million per month.

The former Zimbabwe international joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2018 amid so much expectations following a trailblazing stint at Mamelodi Sundowns.

He won several accolades including the prestigious CAF Champions league title. However everything changed the moment he donned the black and gold jersey.
