Khama Billiat’s agent takes on Zimbabwe’s Sports minister
Khama Billiat’s agent Godfrey Bakasa has launched an attack on Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry.
Kirsty Coventry recently declared to the Zimbabwean parliament that her ministry is not in a hurry to have FIFA’s suspension lifted.
Zimbabwe has been under suspension for over a year now, a situation that has left footballers fretting over their future.
This suspension came after the Sports and Recreation Commission [SRC] expelled the Felton Kamambo led Zimbabwe Football Association [ZIFA] board.
Among other charges, Kamambo and his committee were removed from office over alleged mismanagement of funds and corruption.
They were also accused of sexually abusing of female referees.
Speaking in Parliament, Coventry said government will not reappoint the suspended committee no matter the implications.
“We have accepted that [the ban]. And we have never asked them [FIFA] to lift it,” said Coventry.
“We don’t want them to lift it at this point until we cleared and clean up our soccer.
FIFA has directly told the SRC the only key to unlocking Zimbabwean football is by reinstating the Kamambo-led board.
Coventry’s remarks infuriated football faithful in the country, as they defy FIFA’s directive.
WHAT KHAMA BILLIAT’S AGENT SAID
And Bakasa took to his Facebook, to blast the former swimming sensation who won Olympic gold medals on several occassions.
“Dear honorable Kirsty Coventry imagine if swimming was banned the days you started emerging.
“Who would have seen you representing Zimbabwe and achieving? Yeah, I almost forgot you would not be standing there saying this because literally you would not be there.
“Please treat this with urgency we are losing valuable time. Football is a short career, every second counts,” Bakasa said.
Due to the ban, Zimbabwe has been starved of grants and programs to enhance the game at all levels.
They have also been excluded from participation in referees courses, administration courses, sports medicine courses, futsal and beach courses.
Grassroot development programmes were also stopped among a litany of programs and events that help football tick.
Meanwhile Bakasa has been coy about revealing what the future holds for his client Khama Billiat. The Kaizer Chiefs attacker’s contract expires in June.
