Why Mike Rapatsa is hopeless of a Chiefs turnaround

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mike Rapatsa insists that unless the club addresses a certain aspect, he remains hopeless of any positive turnaround.

Rapatsa, who is now a Pastor, used to bang goals for Amakhosi in the 90s. He officially retired from PSL football in 2002.

Speaking to FARPost on the sidelines of the Grannies International Football Tournament in Limpopo, Rapatsa had some words of advice for his former club that has struggled to win any silver in eight years.

EX STRIKER MIKE RAPATSA HOPELESS

“For now I don’t have hope because I can see there are a lot of weaknesses that need to be improved at the club. Unless they do something about it. For now, I don’t have hope, I must be honest,” he said.

The former Rabali Blackpool forward also identified where Chiefs need to improve.

“I think what they need is to beef up their technical team, their technical team is very minimal,” he said.

“Sundowns have set an example of how a football club should be run. So I think Chiefs should learn from Sundowns about how things in modern days. I think Zwane and Shepard are not enough to take Chiefs where they belong because they still need more people to advise.

WHAT KAIZER CHIEFS TURNAROUND NEEDS

“They need highly qualified coaches who can do the recruitment because it’s obvious everybody can see that their recruitment is failing. So they need more technical team expertise from people who have been there in football and who know their business.”

Rapatsa who came second to Gerald Stober on the 1995/96 season top scorers also revealed that he has now formed a Grannies team.

“Football is my life, there is no way I can’t be involved. I run an academy for under 11, 12 and a senior team. Recently I opened a grannies team named Paledi Grannies Football club.

So sports is my life and I will help wherever I can. It doesn’t matter if it’s Vakhegula or kids, sports is my life.”
