Chippa United fall to Orlando Pirates in Gqeberha

Orlando Pirates beat Chippa United 2-0 in a DStv Premiership clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.

The Chilli Boys were doing a good job of frustrating the visitors in the first stage of the opening half.

But Jose Riveiro‘s charges were not unfazed, as they did sit back and watch the hosts taking command of the showdown.

As the first period wore on, the complexion of the contest changed, with both sides testing each other’s goals.

In the 20th minute of the showpiece, attacking midfielder Kabelo Dlamini broke the deadlock and put the Buccaneers in front.

On the other hand, Pirates did not slow down following their first goal, as they upped the tempo with the hope of adding to the scoreline.

Thembinkosi Lorch scored the second goal for the Sea Robbers in the 38th minute.

The game calmed down a bit as the first half drew on, with Kurt Lentjies’ troops finding it hard to settle into a rhythm and prolonged ball possession from Bucs.

Pirates’ relentless way of doing things in the field of play denied the home side time and space on the ball.

PIRATES LEADING AT HALF-TIME

The match went into the half-time break with a 2-0 scoreline in favour of Pirates.

In the second stanza, the match got off to a cagey start, with two teams struggling to find any real momentum.

But as the second half progressed, it was action-packed. Unfortunately, chances were few and far between from both sides.

Nevertheless, Pirates started enjoying their finest spell of the match, searching for another goal.

The Gqeberha-based outfit had now been pushed back and couldn’t create an opportunity of note.
