How Marumo Gallants coach plans to avoid DStv Prem relegation

Marumo Gallants interim coach Raymond Mdaka has revealed how his side plans to avoid relegation from the DStv Premiership.

Mdaka has orchestrated Bahlabane ba Ntwa’s upturn, coupled with some good results and has given Gallants the faith that they can avoid the chop.

The side hasn’t tasted a defeat in their last three games.

But the team knows that they have a mammoth task that lies ahead to retain their PSL status.

After their 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, Gallants moved one step up on the log standings.

Currently, Gallants are placed 14th on the table with 24 points, equal with Maritzburg United, who are languishing at the basement of the log.

HOW RAYMOND MDAKA PLANS TO AVOID THE CHOP

“We need to fight going forward. We don’t go back,” said Mdaka in a post-match interview.

“Each and every game it will be an all-out so that we get the much-needed points.

“And getting positive results from now on is of paramount importance so we can get out of the situation we are in.”

Shifting his focus to their game against Amakhosi, Mdaka said: “It was a difficult one. We wanted all the points honestly. But today, it wasn’t that flowing.”

“We felt like we were losing a lot of balls in the middle of the park. I think we were caught in the first few minutes [they scored a goal].

“However, we were able to come back because we forced our way back into the game and what we knew was for us to put the ball on the ground and play but it was not there.

“But other than that, let’s accept the point that we got. The spirit is still very high, the character is still very good and we will take it from there.”

Gallants’ next assignment will be against Chippa United at home on Wednesday, 12 April 2023.

The game is set to start at 19:30.
