Manousakis makes admission about Richard Bay’s co-coaching dismantle

Richards Bay coach Vasili Manousakis

Richards Bay FC head coach Vasili Manousakis has made a frank admission about the dismantling of co-coaching at the club.

In March, the club made technical team restructuring following a string of poor results in the second round of their maiden season in the DStv Premiership.

They appointed Manousakis as the sole head coach while Pitso Dladla was assigned to an assistant coach role.

The Natal Rich Boyz’s losing streak continued on Saturday after the club lost their ninth match in a row to Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Speaking after their match against Abafana Bes’thende, Manousakis said he feels more pressure now than when they were sharing the responsibility with Dladla.

VASILI MANOUSAKIS MAKES ADMISSION ABOUT RICHARDS BAYโ€™S CO-COACHING DISMANTLE

โ€œI think when it was a co-coaching set-up, I didnโ€™t [think] I had less responsibility,โ€ Manousakis told the media.

โ€œI still said to myself, letโ€™s bear the responsibility, yes it was a shared load. Of course, now, I feel it more.

โ€œI think, the change as I might have said before, was made because the chairman was clear. You know co-coaching, when itโ€™s going well, thereโ€™s no issues, everything works.

โ€œWhen it doesnโ€™t go well like in our situation, the chairman and the management are going, โ€˜Okay so whoโ€™s going to be accountable, whoโ€™s gonna answer to me.โ€™

โ€œAnd that happens to be me, so I do feel it more. However, weโ€™re not going to change, certainly myself as a coach, from our principles, what we believe and how we believe the game should be played.โ€

Manousakis says they have to fix themselves both in defence and attack.

He also made it clear that theyโ€™re aiming to collect a couple of points to finish in a safe position.

RICHARDS BAY’S TARGET FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON

โ€œWeโ€™re trying to get a little bit more organised defensively but itโ€™s the other side, letโ€™s be honest,โ€ he added.

โ€œThe goals are not going in, 17 goals in 25 games is not a good record. So itโ€™s not a surprise.

โ€œWe just need a couple of more points, maybe three, four more points just to be safe cause thatโ€™s the reality now.

โ€œThere were questions, I remember itโ€™s funny enough, couple of months ago, questions about qualifying for CAF [Champions League], then itโ€™s top eight, then now itโ€™s โ€˜letโ€™s save ourselvesโ€™.โ€
