How Sundowns should approach their remaining league matches

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Tiyani Mabunda has detailed out how the club should approach their remaining DStv Premiership matches.

Sundowns continued their dominance in the South African topflight by clinching their sixth consecutive league title last week with seven matches left to conclude the campaign.

Their remaining matches will be tricky as they are facing teams with different missions.

Marumo Gallants and Maritzburg United are fighting to survive the drop, 12th-placed AmaZulu FC are chasing a top-eight finish, and Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC want to cement their place in the top half.

MENTAL STRENGTH

According to Mabunda, Masandawana should be focused and mentally strong.

“Those five matches require maximum concentration because these guys are coming. They really need as many points as they can get,” said Mabunda on the Sundowns Pitchside Podcast.

“That requires some sort of mental strength and they have shown us that before. They have kept on winning and winning. Now we going against people who really need the points.

“You know that you have concluded your assisgnment [winning the league]. Now you need to channel your focus and find the balance not to drop the ball.”

ONE MORE RECORD TO BREAK

The Tshwane giants will be aiming to break their benchmark of 65 points they accumulated last season. They are four points short from equaling their record after amassing 61 points so far this season.

Sundowns dropped points in their two league matches against Cape Town City and Swallows FC after they were held to goalless draws in both games.

They will look to end their two-match winless run when they tackle Arrows on Wednesday, 12 April, at the Princess Magogo Stadium (19:30)
