Mamelodi Sundowns held by Arrows to third draw in a row

Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows recorded a 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Ryan Moon scored for Abafana Bes’thende while Sipho Mbule got the equaliser for the visitors.

As the two sides got proceedings underway, it was Sundowns who got into a passing rhythm early, forcing the hosts to sit back.

Despite dominating the match, Rulani Mokwena’s troops were producing minimal goal-mouth action.

Out of the blue, Arrows came across a golden chance to grab the lead when slow-moving Knox Mutizwa faced Ronwen Williams. Abdelmounaim Boutouil came to Downs’ rescue.

Moments later, Haashim Domingo nearly opened the scoring when he burst into the box and unleashed a hard and low shot. It took Sifiso Mlungwana’s fingertip save to deny the midfielder’s effort.

Thereafter, Mokwena had to make an early change after Bongani Zungu got a knock. Sipho Mbule came on as his replacement.

RYAN MOON OPENED THE SCORING

In the 23rd minute, Ryan Moon put Abafana Bes’thende in front when he tapped in from Devine Lunga’s cross.

The visitors restarted the match and asserted themselves on the ball possession count. However, the home side’s defence continued to keep it tight at the back.

Meanwhile, Arrows were all about counter-attacking whenever Sundowns lose the ball in front.

The match reached the interval with Arrows leading 1-0.

In the second half, Sundowns came out of the tunnel as aggressors as they sought to equalise. They picked up where they left off, held most of the ball, and looked dangerous offensively.

In the 54th minute, Mailula found his way behind Arrows’ defence but his curling effort was parried away by Arrows’ goalie.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, neither side created noteworthy goalscoring opportunities with the home side denying Bafana Ba Style a space to play.

In the 73rd minute, Masandawana levelled matters through Mbule’s header. It was his second goal in the Brazilians’ colours since joining from SuperSport United.

The youngster Ndumiso Mabena was close to securing a victory for the away side when his thumping shot hit the crossbar after he had beaten Mlungwana.

Sundowns threw it all, seeking a late winner but Arrows remained resolute to keep one point in Durban.

MARUMO GALLANTS GET THE BETTER OF CHIPPA

In the other match of the day, the in-form Marumo Gallants recorded a victory over Chippa United.

It was the third win for Bahlabani Ba Ntwa in their previous four matches.
