Riveiro: ‘It’s still early to think about another silverware’

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has hinted that it’s “still early” to think about another silverware as they prepare for the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.

Pirates will travel to Polokwane to take on Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars on Saturday, 15 April 2023.

The game is scheduled to take place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:00.

Pirates booked their quarterfinals spot after defeating Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Venda Football Academy 2-1, whereas Dondol knocked out AmaZulu on penalties in the last 16.

Riveiro has already tasted the success of winning a domestic cup title, having guided the Buccaneers to the MTN8 triumph.

But the 45-year-old coach vows to add another title to the Sea Robbers’ incredible trophy cabinet.

The Spanish mentor reckons that they will take one game at a time to achieve their ultimate goal as a club.

TAKING IT ONE GAME AT A TIME

“We go game by game. It’s still early to think about another silverware,” Riveiro told the media.

“In our mind is to go all the way in every competition. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it in PSL to be in the last part fighting for the top spot. It is our objective every season [to fight for the league title].

“Now, we are fighting for the second spot which is very important for us and the fans to play in the CAF Champions League. We really want to do it.”

LEAVING NO STONE UNTURNED

The Pirates coach maintains that they will not leave any stone unturned when they lock horns with the amateur side in order to progress to the next round of the competition.

“And next time when we have an opportunity to go to the semifinals [of Nedbank Cup], obviously everyone in the team including us coaches we have ambitions to go all the way and do our best to be the ones who play in the  end [finals],” he added.
