Khune reveals what Zwane demands from Kaizer Chiefs players

Veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has revealed what head coach Arthur Zwane demands from Kaizer Chiefs players.

Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold in the DStv Premiership, which has resulted in a lot of criticism from the club’s faithful.

Zwane took over the coaching reigns at Amakhosi at the start of 2022/23 season and his maiden season as a first team coach has not been smooth sailing.

The 49-year old mentor has guided Chiefs to12 wins in the league with five draws and eight defeats in 25 games. The Soweto giants are forth on the log standings with 41 points.

Their chances of finishing the season in second place on the Premiership table are hanging in the balance after Chiefs dropped two points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Marumo Gallants last Saturday.

Chiefs is in a heated race to qualify for the CAF Champions League with Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, who won their respective games over the weekend to open a two-point gap over Chiefs

Pirates and SuperSport are tied at 43 points, occupying the second and third spot, respectively.

ITUMELENG KHUNE ON WHAT ARTHUR ZWANE WANTS OUT OF HIS PLAYERS

With the Glamour Boys seemingly struggling for consistent form, Khune has outlined what Zwane demands from all Chiefs players.

“I had the privilege of playing with coach Arthur. And I had the privilege of being coached by him,” Khune told Gagasi FM.

“So obviously, we know what he wants. H wants hard-working players. He wants disciplined players, and the Kaizer Chiefs badge [wearing it] doesn’t come easy.”

The former Bafana Bafana’s No.1 also weighed in on what it takes for a player to last longer at Chiefs.

“For players like myself and [Eric] Mathoho being at the club for so long, a lot of guys are asking how come you guys have been here for so long,” he said.

“It takes hard work, dedication and obviously the hunger to win. So you can see with the guys who recently joined us, they settled well.”

Chiefs will shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup. They are set to face Royal AM in the quarterfinals at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, 16th of April.
