Arthur Zwane explain why Samkelo Zwane is the best midfielder in PSL

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has detailed why he believes Samkelo Zwane is the best midfielder in the PSL.

The young Zwane was promoted to the senior team at the start of the 2023/23 DStv Premiership season from Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge side.

Zwane has been the preferred choice in the Chiefs’ central midfield position in recent games.

He has managed to keep the experienced Siyethemba Sithebe out of the starting line-up.

The SA U23 international displayed a Man-of-the-Match performance when Amakhosi beat Stellenbosch 2-1 at FNB Stadium two weeks ago.

At the start of the season, Zwane struggled for game time but his coach Zwane showed faith by giving him some playing minutes.

The Amakhosi tactician showered the young Zwane with praise, describing him as the ‘best midfielder in the league.

ARTHUR ZWANE ON SAMKELO ZWANE’S GAME

“Samkelo [Zwane] is something else for me, not because we developed him as a club,” said Arthur Zwane.

“He’s got rare quality in technical ability, and his execution is second to none. That will always make him a special player because we’re are lacking such players in South Africa.

“Like being able to pinpoint a 40 metre pass and still be able take risks to unlock the oppositions.

“Most defensive midfielders keep it simple; obviously, they don’t want to lose the ball in critical phases on the field and get punished,” added the coach.

Samkelo Zwane has made eight appearances in league for Chiefs while he’s still yet to open his goal scoring account.

Meanwhile, the Soweto giants have been struggling to find a consistent winning formula which saw them win 12 games, drawing five while losing eight times in 25 games played.

Chiefs is currently positioned fourth on the Premiership table with 41 points and they fighting to finish the season as runners-up to qualify for CAF Champions League.

The Glamour Boys will face Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals at Chatsworth Stadium, on Sunday 16th of April. Kickoff is at 18:00.
