Jose Riveiro reveals reason behind Sipho Chaine’s good form

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has stated the reason behind goalkeeper Sipho Chaine’s good form.

Chaine has made 15 appearances in all competitions, conceding 12 goals, while keeping six clean sheets.

The 26-year-old was signed from Chippa United at the beginning of the season. He was brought in as a back up for the injury-prone goalkeeper Richard Ofori and veteran shot-stopper Siyabonga Mpontshane.

After Ofori sustained an injury, Mpontshane was the preferred choice. The keeper was however inconsistent, making mistakes and conceding goals. That’s when Chaine was given an opportunity.

His debut came against Cape Town City in January 2023, a match Pirates lost 2-1. Since then Chaine hasn’t looked back. Through hard work and dedication he has claimed the number one jersey at the Soweto giants.

With his superb performances, he’s proving game-by-game that he’s the right man in between the sticks. Currently, he’s sitting on three cleansheets in a row.

HARDWORK AND DEDICATION

According to Riveiro, Chaine is performing very well because of hard work he’s putting towards his game.

“He’s a guy who is really doing everything in order to make it, it’s not by chance in this case or lucky moment,” said Riveiro.

“He’s doing everything to be there, to perform, to be in the level that requires him to be at Pirates squad and in the starting 11.”

RIVEIRO HAPPY WITH THE TEAM’S PROGRESS

Riveiro couldn’t hide his happiness that the team is finally gelling well. The players are performing well and the Soweto giants are in a good run. They are victorious in their last four matches.

“We happy to see our individual shining, more individuals are coming to the party as well and we get a benefit as a collective,” he added.

“This is a game, it looks much better when we winning and that makes me look as a better coach.

Chaine will be expecting to continue with his great form when they face ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars in the Nedbank Cup last eight tie on Saturday 15 April at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 3pm.
