Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli leave door open in Saudi title race
Pitso Mosimane’s Al-Ahli Saudi FC have left the door wide open for their rivals in the race for the Saudi First Division League title.
This is after the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Giovanni Solinas’ Al-Faissaly on Tuesday.
The Royals, as Mosimane’s Ahli are affectionately known, surrendered a comfortable 2-0 lead in the second half.

They looked to be cruising to yet another win when they took the lead in the first half. They opened the scoresheet through a Ryad Boudebouz penalty.
The same player added the second in the second half from the spot again. It looked as though it would be a straightforward win.
But things took a turn late on as Solinas’ charges came roaring back into the encounter, scoring twice in a matter of minutes to earn a point.
It was two points dropped for Mosimane’s side in their bid to clinch the title. On the other hand, Solinas will have been delighted with the fightback in the second half.
The battle between the former PSL coaches produced four goals and one red card. It was a thrilling match that had it all.
But Mosimane will be bitterly disappointed that his side failed to capitalise. The match between their rivals Al Akhdoud and Al-Hazm was postponed.
Ahli remain at the summit of the table with 59 points from 28 matches. They are three points clear of second-placed Al-Akhdoud, who have played a game less. Ahli’s next match is against Al-Sahel on 24 April.
PROMOTION ALL BUT SECURED
Despite his side’s disappointing draw, Mosimane will be encouraged by the fact that promotion to the topflight is inching closer.
Ahli have all but secured their spot in the top flight for next season with just six matches remaining.
