How Brandon Truter plans to get the best out of Sekhukhune squad

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has explained how he plans to get the best out of his star-studded squad.

Sekhukhune were one of the big spenders ahead of the current season. They signed 17 players in a bid to compete for the DStv Premiership title.

On paper, the squad is competitive. However, things have yet to roll out as planned.

Coach Kaitano Tembo lost his job at the beginning of November 2022 following a string of poor results, leaving the team 15th on the log.

Truter was then appointed to revive the Limpopo outfit and move them out of the relegation zone.
Babina Noko climbed up the table to seventh place, but Truter feels like they can still do better going forward.

TRUTER’S PLAN TO GET THE BEST OUT OF SEKHUKHUNE

Truter stated that he will trim the squad to create a competitive environment so he’s able to keep his squad focused and happy.

“For the quality to come out we have to get rid of the quantity that is there. For a coach to succeed and keep the competitive level in training there has to be quality and the intensity must be right,” said Truter.

“Once it’s a bloated squad, you have to try keep everybody happy, the focus gets divided.

“At the time you will have a disgruntled group with 10 to 15 players on the outside, then have about 20 players you working with at the moment and focusing on.”

TRUTER ON SEKHUKHUNE SQUAD QUALITY

Truter further weighed in, on his squad saying it’s full of quality and has a lot of potential to succeed.

“The players are reacting to tactical flexibility and tactical plans. I have the Zambian captain [Rodrick Kabwe] in my team and Ivorian number one [Badra Sangare].

“I have internationals, former Bafana players who have won things in the country and CAF Champions League. It’s a squad full of talent, full of potential and full of material that can win things,” he added.
